Will onion exports be affected?
Onion export has increased to 25 lakh tonnes this year. This is a growth of 64 percent. 22 percent growth in terms of volume. It is likely that the next harvest will suffer due to heatwaves and unseasonal rain. So it is expected that the price of onion in India may go up. Exports may be banned or restricted if prices rise significantly. Countries that will buy onions from us, if our exports are disrupted, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and the Philippines import from China. We have exported onion to the extent of 6.7 lakh tonnes to Bangladesh. We have exported 4 lakh tonnes each to UAE and Malaysia. We have exported 2.7 lakh tonnes to Sri Lanka.
