The Organic Farmers Producer Company has partnered with APEDA for their first export.
About 25 tonnes of seedless watermelons have been exported to Dubai.
The weight of this fruit ranges from three to five kilograms per fruit. Watermelon fruit is imported to Dubai not only from India but also from Iran. Imported watermelons from Iran weigh up to ten kilograms per fruit.
The wholesale price of an Indian watermelon is four dirhams in Dubai. Retail price is 17 dirhams. We get better prices when we sell directly to supermarkets like LULU. Daily 15 containers are exported from here to Dubai.
People there prefer to buy Indian Watermelon than Iranian Watermelon.
The main reason for this is that it is light in weight and organically produced.
Traders are happy as exports to Dubai fetch more than double the domestic price.
