Saudi Arabia embargoes India.
Recently the presence of white spot syndrome virus in shrimps exported from India was detected by the Saudi Arabian Drug Authority.
It is a virus that can have very bad side effects.
The virus can cause anything from severe diarrhea to death by eating infected food.
So Saudi Arabia immediately banned the import of shrimp from India.
But this is a temporary ban.
The ban is expected to continue until the Government of India gives an assurance that such quality defects will not occur in the future.
As a result, additional certificates may be required when exporting shrimp to Saudi Arabia.
