Exporters defrauding customs?
It may be recalled that the central government imposed a 20 percent tax on certain types of non-basmati rice.
It was reported that some exporters were exporting 20% taxable rice by invoicing it as non-taxable rice.
Following this, the customs officials launched a serious investigation.
Thousands of tonnes of Idly rice destined for Dubai, Canada, Japan and Singapore have been suspended at Tamil Nadu and Andhra ports on suspicion.
But the exporters deny that it is not rice subject to 20 percent duty.
Exporters are affected by this delay.
