The Government of India has declared 2023 as the year of millet export, and this decision has been accepted by 72 countries. To promote millet exports from India, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with LULU hypermarket, a leading supermarket chain in the Middle East.
Under this MoU, various millet products, including raw millets, ready-to-eat and ready-to-cook millets, will be displayed in all LULU hypermarket branches worldwide, including Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Egypt. This move is expected to increase the demand for Indian millet products globally, leading to increased exports and growth in the agricultural sector.
To further promote millet exports, APEDA has also planned to conduct 16 international trade shows this year. These trade shows will showcase Indian millet products to buyers and importers from around the world, providing an opportunity for Indian millet exporters to connect with potential customers.
Millet is a nutritious cereal crop that is high in protein, fiber, and other essential nutrients. It is a climate-resilient crop that requires minimal water and is thus suitable for cultivation in drought-prone areas. Millets also have a low glycemic index, making them an excellent choice for people with diabetes and other health conditions.
In conclusion, the government's decision to declare 2023 as the year of millet export, combined with APEDA's initiatives to promote millet exports, is expected to boost the Indian agricultural sector and increase the demand for Indian millet products globally. This move will not only benefit Indian farmers but also contribute to promoting healthier eating habits worldwide.
