Govt eliminated import duty - struggling manufacturers.
The central government recently completely removed import duty on mosquito nets from 20 percent.
We import mosquito net from China, Nepal, Bangladesh, Taiwan, Thailand etc.
There is no doubt that this decision of the government will give good profits to the importers of mosquito nets.
But mosquito net manufacturers have suffered a lot.
There are various mosquito net manufacturers in Salem and Karur region of Tamil Nadu.
There are only eight companies in India that manufacture mosquito nets made from the WTO guidelines of alpha-cybermethrin. Two of them are in Karur. To this end, there are about 200 mosquito netting companies that produce for domestic needs. About one lakh people get employment directly and indirectly.
The mosquito nets manufactured here are sent to various states like Bihar, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Mumbai etc.
The use of this mosquito net in North India is at many sites.
It is used to dry maize in the sun.
Central / State Govt used to provide roof in horticulture sector.
Used to seal agricultural wells.
It is used in government private hospitals.
In urban areas there is also personal use in houses.
Mosquito nets made like this are sold in North India for around 250 rupees.
But the imported mosquito nets are being sold at Rs 200 and the manufacturers are suffering a lot.
