Champa chilli grown organically in Kamudi area of Ramanathapuram district in Tamil Nadu is exported to USA.
A Bengaluru-based export company purchases and exports chillies from farmers in the Kamudi area on a contractual basis.
About 500 metric tons of chilies are harvested and grown entirely to US standards.
From time to time importers from the US vist farms and ask the farmers in Kamudi about their production methods to ensure quality.
Samples are sent to Germany during the growing season for quality testing.
That harvest is allowed to be exported to the US when proper quality is assured.
Recently 200 metric tons of samba chilies were exported to the US.
