Jamnagar district of Gujarat state is famous for manufacturing and exporting brass products.
It is a place where various artefacts and industrial items are produced from brass.
A large amount of brass articles are exported from this region to South Asia, West Asia and Africa.
Exporting to Europe and the US was a dream until five years ago.
Only a few exporters exported to European and American countries.
Only special machine-made (imported from Germany) brass products were exported to European and American countries.
The price of such an imported machine is 80 lakh rupees.
Not all exporters are able to invest this much and import the machine.
But now this machine is manufactured locally.
Its price ranges from 15 lakhs to 20 lakhs.
Now most of the exporters are exporting the products made by this machine to European and American countries.
The quality of the product is very high.
So they keep getting orders.
But another problem now exists.
The raw material for making these items is brass scrap which is not available in our country so we are dependent on imports.
About 80 percent of our overall demand comes from America and 20% from African countries.
8000 tonnes of brass scrap is required per month.
About 25 percent of the brass products manufactured in Jamnagar are used for export and 75% for domestic demand.
There is opportunity in both import of brass scrap and export of brass products.
