India has set a target for exports every year and has successfully achieved it. Last year also we achieved more than our export target. But I think it is not possible to meet the export target this year. The reason for this is that the Indian government is constantly imposing export bans and restrictions on various items.
Recently we imposed a ban on wheat exports.
After that sugar export was restricted.
Export of wheat flour was restricted.
Currently items like maida flour and semolina have been banned from August 14.
DGFT has laid down certain rules for exporting orders received before this embargo period.
Such orders received before the ban period should be approved by DGFT for export. This permission can be granted or rejected only by the Union Cabinet meeting. This permission will be decided after examining various possibilities. A decision will be made on many factors including export volume, country of export and food inflation in that country.
If permission is granted to export, an export inspection certificate must be obtained. Both these will be loaded on the cargo ship only if they are presented at the port.
