India approves import of GM soybean
There is a worldwide ban on various genetically modified food grains.
Soybean demand for animal feed is high in India.
Domestically its price is very high.
When India sought imports to meet feed demand, only genetically modified soy was available.
The Government of India has decided to import this genetically modified soybean without any other option.
This GM soybean should be imported only through Nava Seva port.
Definitely it should be used only for animal feed.
The federal government granted the permit, subject to a number of conditions, including a ban on human use.
Thus the demand for animal feed in India has been met.
The Central Government has accepted the request of the importers and sellers and has now given permission to import it through the port of Thoothukudi and the port of Visakhapatnam.
