Japan's export ban

Japan has enacted a new law from April-1 2021.  It is an offence to transport or cultivate or sell traditional, brand and trademark registered seeds or seedlings outside Japan from the day the act came into force.

Unlike our country, Japan has registered traditional seeds and seedlings under international law.  Vegetables and fruits and cereals produced by those traditional seeds are sold internationally at high prices.

But South Korea and China imported such seeds without any prior permission and grew more in their country and sold them at low prices in the international market.

The Japanese economy was indirectly affected by this.

Then Japan introduced this new law.  No country will come forward to implement such acts internationally afterwards.

Our tradition has a value that we must uphold, our grandfather, Mr. Nammalwar, who climbed the steps of the court in various countries a few years ago.

Today Japan has taken such a decision to protect the same traditional seeds and seedlings.
